Tutorial: Uploading Files Using a FTP Client
for a PC
If you are not familar with using a FTP client on
your PC computer, you can start reading the immediate
instructions. If you feel comfortable using a FTP
client and just need the settings to set up your
client correctly for use with our server, click
here.
1.
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. It is a method
of sending and receiving files over the internet.
A common and widely-used FTP client that is free
of charge for downloading and using for personal
use is WS_FTP. You can download it here.
2.
After you install WS_FTP, run the application. The
program will load up and another smaller window
will appear over the top of the program called Session
Properties. This window allows you to specify
the settings for connecting to different FTP servers.
In
the example below we entered MediaFreQ FTP as the profile name.
For
Host Name/Address it needs to read 63.105.28.97
We'll
leave Host Type set to Automatic detect
The
User ID needs to be set to client
The
Password needs to be set to drop
If
you plan on submitting more orders in the future,
you can make sure Save Pwd is checked
so you don't have to enter this information again.
3.
Next click on the Advanced tab
in the Session Properties window. See the example
below.
Make
sure Passive Transfers is unchecked.
Click Apply
Hit OK to connect to our FTP server.
4. WS_FTP lists your files on your computer on the
left under Local System. Select
the files you wish to upload and then click on the
right-pointing arrow in the center of the window
(illustrated by the red arrow below). On the right
side the program shows you the folder view on our
FTP server after you have connected and is listed
as Remote Site. Your files will
upload and you should be able to see them listed
under the Remote Site after they have finished uploading.
Congratulations!
You have just successfully uploaded your files using
a FTP client for your PC computer.
