Tutorial: Creating outlines from fonts
in Illustrator
This
is an important step because failing do to
so could cause your job to print out with
different fonts then what you designed your
job with. It also could drastically rearrange
your text layout as a result, too. By creating
outlines of your fonts, you are converting
your text characters into vector outlines
which will be interpreted by our prepress
computers consistently as you intend them
to look. No two computers have the exact same
font files installed, so by accomplishing
this step it won't matter if we have a specific
font installed that you are using for your
design or not.
1. Let's assume this rose design is your job.
The text shown below is still editable as
text, thus it has not been converted to outlines
yet. Once your text is converted to outlines
it should no longer be editable as text. Click
on the text and highlight it as shown below:
2. Now you have two different methods to convert
your fonts to outlines. The first method we
will demonstrate is to go to the Type
menu and select Create Outlines.
Example:
3. The other method is to right click your
text selection (PCs only) and select Create
Outlines:
4 . Presto! You now should have no worries
about font issues with your design.
